The Beekeeper
Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper
For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’ This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.
For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.
The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.
When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.
Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.
When we are writing we need to think about…
- What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write
Do your writing here
The day was as hot as fire in spring. The bees were collecting pollen off the new and sweet blossoms bursting on the trees. The wind was so cold the animals were hiding away. The beekeeper came out of his marae as quiet as a lion about to pounce on its prey.

My Dream Action Plan
We have been working on thinking about our dreams for the future that we would like to achieve. We wrote a dream plan. Here is my plan for my dream.
This action plan is to help me achieve:
My Dream for myself: To fly the Flying Doctors Plane, to drive a Wildtrak Ford Ranger, and to play hockey for the Black Sticks Mens Team.
My Dream for New Zealand:
To not litter in the ocean.
Why is this dream important to me?
Because these are things I want to achieve.
Who within my family, friends or community can I ask for support or advice to achieve my dream?
The Flying Doctors Manager Arthur, My hockey coach Jack, and the Greymouth Owner of Ford Neil.
In order to achieve my dream I will need the following skills and knowledge
Black Sticks
1. To get advice from my coach.
2. To train a lot.
3. Listen.
4. Work in a team.
5. To work out.
Flying Doctors
1. To do well in school.
2. To go to university.
3. To ask Arthur about it.
4. Good maths skills.
5. Good reading schools.
Ford Wild Trak
1. To save up money.
2. To go to driving lessons.
When do I want to achieve my dream by?
Age 18.
What are some things that might go wrong and how will I fix them?
I crash and fix it up in court. My engine explodes and I fix it up by taking a emergency landing. I score for the other team and fix it up by scoring heaps of goals for my team.
The first five steps I need to take to turn my dream into reality are:
1. Start saving money for a Ford Ranger Wildtrak
2. Talk to Arthur about making it into pilot's university.
3. Get better and better at hockey.
4. Do well in school.
