Colony Collapse Disorder

 What Is
Colony Collapse Disorder?

Success Criteria:
We will plan and then write an information report on a topic of our choice related to bees.

Our report will:
  • Be interesting!
  • Give information about a topic of our choice related to bees.
  • Show a clear link to our planning.
  • Start with an opening statement about our topic.
  • Have at least 3 paragraphs.  Each paragraph will have an opening statement
  • and a series of facts related to that statement.
  • Include some complex or compound sentence structures.
  • Include at least one diagram, photograph, illustration or map to go with the text.
  • Finish with a general statement about the topic.
  • Use information from at least 3 different sources.  This information will be written
  • in our own words and we will write down our sources at the end of our report.

Colony collapse disorder (ccd) is killing bees. Bee hives have been abandoned.
There were 5 million hives in 1988 but only 2.5 million today. These are the three main reasons why
ccd is killing bees.

Chemicals is a big problem. In 2015 in the USA, the insecticides like neonicotinoids
were used on about 95% of crops and flowers. Pests came along and died but so did bees.
They came along and picked up the poison and took it back to the hive and all the bees in the hive died.
Neonicotinoids harms the bees nerve system.

Image result for dead beeMites is also a problem. Female mites go into the hive and get into the bee larvae cell
and suck out the fat out of the bee larvae and weakens them although they still have enough
strength to break out of the cell. Then the male mite comes along and weakens them too.
They also give the bees viruses which leads to bad wings and other disabilities.

Global warming is a big problem too. Humans can live in different types of temperatures
but bees can not. Bees must live in a certain type of temperature of else they will die. Because
global warming is warming up Earth's atmosphere, bees die because it is not the temperature
it is used to.

Without bees, humans and many other living animals would die. Bees add $15 billion to the
USA economy. Bees are the most important animal in the world.
